Women today can choose from a great Variety of Birth Control Methods.
Among young women, most birth control is via the pill. Over the last few years, however, alternative contraception choices have been developed for these women and girls who have not yet had children. Particularly user-friendly is the Gynefix IUD (intrauterine device). This is a filament, implanted in the upper part of the uterus, threaded with copper tubes. Its advantage over the traditional coil is the disappearance of the constant irritation that can sometimes be caused by the “arms” of the coil. For some other women, the hormone coil can be the ideal choice, especially for women who tend to bleed heavily. In fact, the hormone coil often causes these bleeds to disappear entirely. In the case of women with lower abdominal problems, mainly endometriosis, the hormone coil often turns out to be a blessing.
For each patient and her individual requirements, it is important to select the most appropriate form of contraception. As always, it is vital that the doctor concerned be able to offer enough time and empathy to decide with the patient on the best choice for her.
